WELCOME!!
WE ARE LAUNCHING THE 3RD MENORCA CONFERENCE. (Mahón, may 2-5-2018).
For those who do not know us, the "1st International Conference on Best Practices in World Heritage: Archeology", celebrated in 2012, marked a milestone in scientific literature about heritage, as it allowed the creation of a framework of joint reflection for the scientific community and main institutions involved in World Heritage. In addition, it launched the candidacy of Menorca to the indicative list of World Heritage.
Therefore, the Council of Menorca together with the Complutense University of Madrid, through the research group "Management of Cultural Heritage" (www.ucm.es/gpc), decided once again, to organize this international meeting. The second edition focused on "people and communities", which is undoubtedly one of the central themes of World Heritage nominations at this time. The Conference, with barely three months of announcement, likewise the first edition, had a very high international impact, with a great variety of countries attending the conference. Here you can find the previous proceedings: http://eprints.ucm/34899/ .
And why did these Conferences have such a good reception? Why come to Menorca? We have an ongoing strategy, improving each edition, because we understand these conferences as scientific projects for generating collective knowledge. Here we become increasingly malleable, allowing you to be the people who form the community of Best Practices in World Heritage --already a great number of people, who best outline the Conference contents.
This time, we have a year and a half ahead of us and we deeply wish that this third edition exceeds the previous ones by far. "Integral actions" in World Heritage is the main topic of the Conference, but we ask you for your help to break down the topic into sessions. We are suggesting some proposals through our social networks (see below) where you can vote, give your opinion, and make other proposals of your interest.
We consider "integral actions" all those which comprise a multidimensional treatment of World Heritage, including at least two of these three perspectives: scientific-technical, political, and social perspective.
This type of integral actions and the good practices they generate, should lead us to improve the management of cultural and natural assets selected as World Heritage. We believe that the document of Best Practices on Integral Actions that will come out of the 2018 Conference should provide new ways in World Heritage, alternative routes to discover.
We have ahead of us, SPECIFIC DATES, AN ISLAND TO ENJOY AND MANY IDEAS TO SHARE AS TOPICS, and, starting from here, VOTE AND DEBATE ONLINE.
